And So It Begins...

So, since today is Tuesday I can almost officially say that I've had classes for a week. Move in day was last Monday, and I admittedly was more than looking forward to it. Sick of working two jobs the entire Sunday, I had started packing on Saturday (and I never pack early for anything). So like I was saying - last Monday was move-in day, and a week ago from today I was registering for classes and organizing the dorm room. That basically means that one week from tomorrow I will have been in classes for a week - and already I have music to listen to!

"What music is she talking about?" you ask. Ah, well prepare to have your answer.

See, as the new music director of the radio station - I get the wonderful honors of going through all of the music that we get sent (some good, some bad, some far beyond ugly). But the point is that I'll be going through all of it, and then I'll be letting you know my reviews on all of it. I'll include the artist and the track title so you can google the song (or find some other way to contact the artist) if it seems to interest you. Love my review, hate my review - it's totally up to you, the reader.

And all of this will be starting next post! Exciting, right?

And just a random tid-bit at the end so this isn't all informational... I finally have my completed "2009 - A Summer To Remember" playlist complete and have decided to let all of you see it below (enjoy)...

So Behind / Summer Movies

Wow, do I feel so behind. The last time that I was on here we didn't have any other blog entries or anything, and I log on to see that we've had 60 something. It makes you think to yourself "Did I just crawl out from under a rock?"... or at least it does if you're me.

But no one wants to hear about my thinking (even me most days), so on to more exciting topics like summer movies...

There have been some pretty great movies released this summer, and the music that goes along with them has been no exception either.

I've never really been a huge fan of music soundtracks before. I mean, I liked the songs when they were in the movie but I wouldn't go out and buy the soundtrack from Wal*Mart or anything like that. The first movie soundtrack that I can recall buying happened fairly recently (last summer to be exact) and it was the Camp Rock soundtrack (Disney movie - don't ask...it'll make me ramble on and on about it). And I'll admit it, I only bought it for a few songs and the bragging rights of saying that I had it and blaring it as I drove around my small town.

From there it went to the Twilight soundtrack *sigh* (over-rated, I know). However, I will admit that was something that I did for my mom. She was as into (if not even more so) the book series than I was, and so she was ecstatic about seeing the movie...so I decided to buy her the soundtrack before we went to go see it as a very early Christmas present. Once again I knew a couple of the songs or artists, but the others were just sort of there *insert heart-less shrug here*. But the more I listened to it (and didn't incorporate it with the movie) the more I liked it. It's upbeat, even if some of it is a little harder to understand if you're not fully paying attention and the only thing I really can't stand about it is the Robert Pattinson track (mostly because he just sounds like a blubbering fool attempting to sing and play guitar in it - no offense to all the Rob fans out there). So from that point on I decided to stay open minded on soundtracks.

So, like I was saying... there's been some good movie releases this year - and some of their soundtracks have been equally great as well. Starting back at the beginning of this year, I went and saw the Jonas Brothers' movie which is conveniently titled "The Jonas Brothers' 3D Concert Experience" (I'll admit, I'm a fan *girly sigh*). And even if the movie was sort of a flop, the soundtrack was pretty good proof that they're not as horrible live as some people make them out to be. Sure, there were a few notes that weren't perfect...but that's how live performances work, isn't it? The song "Love Is On It's Way" that had previously been unreleased was cute, another one of the typical love songs that make you go "aww" over your choice of the three Jonas boys.

Overall thought of it: The movie might have been alright, but the soundtrack was pretty good... probably better than the movie itself.

Then the new(er) X-Men movie.. X-Men Beginnings: Wolverine (or something similarly titled). The movie was really good in my opinion, and I don't like any of those comic book related movies... X-Men, Spider Man, Superman, Hulk, etc. But the soundtrack didn't live up to the movie. I found parts dull and boring - to the point where I was just sitting around twiddling my thumbs, wishing that it was over. Yeah, it was that bad.

Overall thought: The movie kicked the soundtrack's butt.

And who could forget the new Night At The Museum movie - featuring all of the same beloved characters from the first movie, along with a few new ones (including my personal favorites - the cherubs, the two monkeys, Jeb - the cowboy, and Darth Vader). The movie was funny, cute with little "aww" softspots, and an amazing ending song in the credits *cough "Fly With Me" cough*. The soundtrack (which contains mostly non-vocal tracks) fits the movie to a tee - especially since it was written and made for the movie specifically. I'm a lyrics girl (if a song has good lyrics, then I'm going to like it more than something that doesn't) - but this soundtrack breaks the mold. I like it and it's not even lyrically brilliant or anything (well maybe a certain song is -- refer to above). Now that I think about it, it just makes me want to go out and buy the movie even more when it's released.

Overall thought: The movie and the soundtrack are great, both appealing in their own unique and different ways.

Talking about movies that have lyric-free soundtracks... Harry Potter! I went and saw Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince on it's opening day (since I'll admit - I was hooked on Harry Potter since middle school). The movie (although not completely accurate to the book) was good - could have used a little more action, but good. But the soundtrack on the other side, was dull...boring. I don't know, not my style at all. I listened to it twice all the way through, and I can still say that it doesn't appeal to me - almost at all. Harry Potter, I love you - but you're getting old, the soundtracks all sound the same... maybe something new needs to be put into effect.

Overall thought: Movie's alright, soundtrack not so much... at all.

And one last final movie of the summer so far - Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen. Although I still haven't seen the movie (because I haven't seen the first yet either... I know, I live in an action movie hole) I do have the soundtrack, and I play it quite a bit. It's perfect "driving music" for me, and the Linkin Park song and The Used song make me hit the repeat button. The songs are amazing, the beats and backbeats are pretty close to amazing too.

Overall thought: Can't compare to the movie, but the soundtrack is one of the most amazing ones of the entire summer, without any competition.

So many movies, so little time to talk about their soundtracks. I just realized it's 11:00 pm, and I need to wake up in less than six hours to go to work (ugh, the one downfall of summertime -- work).

Until next time (as Demi Lovato says),

Got me ready to go solo...

The First (Of Many) Surveys - A Musical Introduction

In attempts to have you know a little about me, and my music as of this second I filled out a semi-long survey. I got bored towards the end so my answers got a little snippy. Expect more soon (I mean it).

Well, here goes nothing...

List 10 musical artists that you like:

1. The Jonas Brothers
2. Simple Plan
3. Mitchel Musso
4. Demi Lovato
5. We The Kings
6. Emerson Drive
7. The Veronicas
8. MxPx
9. The Used
10. Motion City Soundtrack

What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
"Moments" - since it was on country radio before I had even heard of the band before.

What is your favorite album of 8?
Since they have about a billion albums out I actually have two. "Before Everything And After" and "Secret Weapon".

What is your favorite lyric of 5?
"Cause if you jump I will jump too, we will fall together from the building's ledge. Never looking back and what we've done, we'll say it was all cause I would die for you on Skyway Avenue." - Skyway Avenue

What are your three favorite songs by 7?
* "Popular"
* "In Another Life"
* "Speechless"

What are your favorite three songs by 2?
* "Love Is A Lie"
* "I'm Just A Kid"
* "Me Against The World"

What are your three favorite songs by 9?
* "Cut Up Angels"
* "Buried Myself Alive"
* "Pretty Handsome Awkward"

What is your favorite album by 1?
Their newest album - "Lines, Vines, And Trying Times"

How did you get into 4?
Honestly? Camp Rock, the Disney Channel, and from touring with The Jonas Brothers. But now I think she's amazing all on her own.

What are your three favorite songs by 3?
* "Hey!"
* "Welcome To Hollywood"
* "Get Out"

What is a good memory concerning 2?
One of their concerts that I went to I made my own "Simple Plan pants" and put car paint all over the windows of my car dubbing it the "Simple Plan Mobile" (still to this day). I brought along a stuffed zebra named David after the bassist David Desrosiers. Oh, and at the concert I managed to get in a fight with two college guys (I was a sophomore in high school at the time) over Pierre Bouvier's (the lead singer) sweat towel...no joke. It was fun though!

Is there a song by 8 that makes you emotional?
"Don't Walk Away" - because some of the lyrics are just sweet, adorable, and basically heart-melting.

What are your three favorite songs of 1?
I couldn't settle with just three, so I did five...
* "World War III"
* "BB Good"
* "Hello Beautiful"
* "Move On"
* "Turn Right"

As a final note, what is your favorite song of the 10 artist?
It changes on a daily basis, but on this day in particular I would have to go with "Catch Me" - Demi Lovato, because it keeps coming up on my iTunes.

-

Simple Plan, because I have close to ten of their albums.

Tough question! Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy) because he's so lyrically complex!

Hmm, again tough question! Nick Jonas - for the simple fact that I want a cute song written about me and that seems to be his thing.

15. What was your last musical "phase" before you wizened up?
Simple Plan and Good Charlotte, and before that it was Evanescence.

16. Sabbath or solo Ozzy?
Solo Ozzy.

17. Did you know that filling out this survey makes you a music geek?
No, but okay I'll take it.

18. What was the greatest decade for music?
The 90's, because it was full of some of the catchiest and yet most pathetic music that I know.

19. What is your favorite movie soundtrack?
The Camp Rock Soundtrack, The Twilight Soundtrack, or The Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen Soundtrack.

20. What would you be without music?
A zombie with not a clue of what to do with herself.
